Davao Del Sur)
Sprawled along the shores of Southeastern Mindanao, Davao
Del Sur is a place of natural wonders and rarities. It
boasts of the country's highest peak - Mt. Apo, the most
prized Philippine orchid like the Vanda Sanderiana, some of
the exotic fruits and the endangered Philippine Eagle.
Davao del Sur is home to a host of ethnic groups whose
culture and way of life have been preserved. These are the
Bagobos, the Mandayas, the Mansakas, the Atas, the Kalagans,
the Tagakaolos and the Mangguangans. Their arts and crafts
are on display in museums and shops.
There is a wide choice of white sand beaches and resorts. In
the city, there are numerous hotels and inns. Dining is good
and varied. Nightlife is fun.
Some of the popular sports activities are golf, water sports
and mountain climbing.
BRIEF HISTORY
The history of Davao del Sur dates back even before its
formal creation as a province on July 1, 1967. Prior to this
period, the history of the undivided province of Davao was
its history, and the history of the undivided province of
Davao was its history, and the history of Davao City, the
capital of old Davao, was the history of Davao del Sur.
The early inhabitants of the Davao provinces, particularly
the area now called the Province of Davao del Sur, were the
Bagobo-Guianggas who occupied the places at the foot of Mt.
Apo, the B'laans of Hagonoy Valley, the Manobos in Malita
and Jose Abad Santos and other primeval tribes.
Davao Del Sur was created under REpublic Act. No. 4867 on
May 8, 1967 and started as a province on July 1, 1967
comprising 10 municipalities with Digos as its capital.

municipalities and 337 baranggays
Climate: The province is blessed with a favorable climate
characterized by wet and dry seasons. The coldest time is
during the months of December and January and hottest is
during the months of April & May. The province is outside
the typhoon belt.
Language/Dialects: Cebuano/Visayan, Tagalog, B'laan, Bagobo,
Manobo, Tagakaolo, Muslim
Transportation: The province is accessible by land, air and
sea travel thru Davao City, an hour's drive from the capital
city of Digos. Buses ply to Digos-Davao, Digos-Cotabato and
Digos-Gen. Santos City-South Cotabato routes daily. The
province has several privately-owened airports and seaports.
Communication: All the 15 municipalities of the province
have existing telegram stations and transceivers. Davao del
Sur has 2 telephone company operators, PILTEL and PLDT. The
Province has several radio stations and cable stations. Cell
sites for mobile telephone are also existing.
Cottage Industries: Furtinure & Fixtures, Toys, Housewares
and Novelty items, Stone Craft Mat weaving / Loom weaving,
Cut flower and ornamental plants, raw materials for cottage
industries such as bamboos, coconut trees, nito and clay.
